Coronavirus lockdown January 2021.
On Tuesday January 5th 2021 the country entered a new Corona Virus lockdown. This was because of rapidly rising rates of infection due in part to the new variant virus that is much more easily transmitted. Mirfield Team Parish Standing Committee and advisors met to discuss the implications of this for Worship in our Parish. Under the new rules we can continue worship gatherings with strict COVID-19 safeguarding regulations enforced. As we already operate under these regulations we could, if we so wished, continue as we have been for the past few weeks. However, there was considerable unease expressed by everyone at the meeting about doing so. The greatly increased transmission rate of the variant virus was a bit of an unknown and whilst we were confident that the measures we had in place were as effective as possible against transmission of the original strain the meeting felt it unwise to rely too heavily on them until either more was known or the vaccine roll out had become effective.
Considering this the following recommendations were made:
No Midweek Services on Wednesday or Thursday – to cease with immediate effect.
No Open Church, in its present format, at either St Mary’s or St John’s.
St Mary’s – To live stream one Sunday morning Eucharist service from 10:30 am with a limited number of personnel, i.e. 5/6people.
St John’s – would be open for INDIVIDUAL PRIVATE PRAYER ONLY – for a single hour from 2pm until 3pm on Sunday afternoons, with social distancing strictly adhered to.
We are sorry that this means that the services with congregations we had come to enjoy again will have to cease for the time being. We will continue to reach out to as many as possible online and through Pastoral contact. We will keep this situation under review with the aim of returning to congregational worship as soon as it is safe to do so.
